Ghana FA freezes last salary of Grant

The Ghana Football Association says the last salary of immediate-past coach Avram Grant has been withheld pending the latter’s submission of a report on the Black Stars’ participation at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The Israeli parted ways with the four-time champions in February following Ghana’s disappointing campaign at the Afcon.

“We have decided to hold on to the payment until he produces his report,” GFA vice president George Afriyie told the media.

“Up until now, he has not submitted it.

“ We are still waiting to receive it.

“Until then, we are not going to pay his last salary.”

Grant took up Ghana job in December 2014, leading them to the final of the Afcon two months later in Equatorial Guinea.

Under the 62-year-old’s reign, however, the Black Stars got off to a poor start to the last round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, a situation which currently sees them five points adrift of Group E leaders Egypt.

The Afcon 2017 disappointment, a fourth finish following a third-place playoff defeat to Burkina Faso, was unarguably his final straw.
