Parents fly 8,000 miles from India to Florida ‘to beat In-law’

A wife had to be rescued after her husband’s parents flew from India to Florida to beat and imprison her for being “disobedient”, police said.

Devbir Kalsi, 33, and his parents Jasbir, 67, and Bhupinder Kalsi, 61, were arrested on Saturday after his wife Silky Gaind, 33, raised the alarm.

She was found bloodied and being held against her will at her home in Riverview Florida, officers said.

Kalsi’s parents had allegedly flown more than 8,000 miles from their native India to help their son “counsel and discipline his wife for being disobedient”.

After she was attacked Silky allegedly called her own parents in India to tell them she was being held in her home with her one-year-old daughter.

They then called US Marshalls to report the abuse.

When detectives arrived at around 6.30am they found the house door blocked and heard the victim screaming for them to rescue her child, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officers forced their way in and arrested the Kalsi family, Fox 13 reported.

According to the police report Kalsi beat his wife “repeatedly and forcefully” on Friday night.

When Silky tried to defend herself Kalsi’s parents began hitting her too, leaving her with bruises on her face, neck and torso.

The couple’s child was “hit in the face” during one attack on her mother and Jasbir Kalsi threatened to stab his daughter-in-law with a kitchen knife, the report stated.
