NEDco, VRA seek court protection
A Tamale Circuit Court has issued bench warrant for the arrest of two residents of Zogbeli and Lamakara in the Tamale Metropolitan Area for allegedly assaulting staff of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDco).
The accused persons, Iddrisu Ibrahim and his accomplice only identified as Coolio have been accused of physically assaulting and threatened the life of NEDco staff who lawfully disconnected their residences for illegal connection.
The NEDco’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Alhassan Abaaba told Citi News the culture of impunity unleashed on the company’s technical staff was unbearable, hence the court action.
He served notice the company will not countenance such inhumane conduct moving forward and urged its customers to be law abiding. Ibrahim Iddrisu Abaaba reaffirmed the NEDco’s commitment to address the legitimate concerns of their customers and urged them to fully utilize the customers complaints unit.
Lawyer for the two accused persons, Lawyer Mohammed Alhassan alias terror showed remorse for his clients absence in court.
As a result of the increase in utility tariffs particularly electricity, the NEDco has identified illegal connections widespread in the Tamale Metropolitan Area as a major challenge affecting the company’s operations.
The company’s technical team is in a manhunt for the offenders and some staff have suffered from manhandling on the line of duty.
Management has therefore resolved to use the law courts as safe haven and has so far raked in millions of cedis from defaulting customers.
