Govt give 70,000 LPG cylinders to rural folk

At least 70,000 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders have been distributed to rural dwellers by the Government of Ghana under the Rural LPG Promotion project.

The promotion seeks to promote the use of cleaner forms of energy for cooking.

Launching the project in Sekondi in the Western Region, Petroleum Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, told the gathering that 40 districts in six regions had so far benefitted from the free distribution of the cylinders.

After the launch in Sekondi, 1,000 cylinders were distributed. 1,000 more are expected to be distributed later in the same region. The cylinders, he noted, are made by the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company.

But the NPP Regional organizer,Abdul Ganiru Mohammed  has staed that the distribution of the cylinders is meant to buy votes as the December 7 general elections approach. He explained that the NPP will not distribute such items that will benefit few people but the things like free SHS,school feeding program,restoration of NHIS and among others.He spoke to OTEC NEWS,Abenaa Serwah Boatemaa,in an exclusive interview.
