We Aren’t Done With EC-PPP

The Progressive People’s Party says they are not yet done with the EC in spite of the dismissal of their filling fee suit against the election management body by the High court.
The Nkrumahist party sued the EC over what they said was the astronomical hike in the filing fee for candidates contesting in the upcoming elections.
But the High court on Friday dismissed the case differing the reason for the judgement to Monday.
Speaking to OTEC NEWS on the judgment, policy adviser for the PPP, the youth Cordiator for the party Mr Divine Nkrumah hinted that the party despite its failure to get the High Court to uphold its plea, will still go ahead to challenge the legality of the new filing fees.
He told OTEC NEWS, Abena Serwah Boateng that minutes after the ruling that “the matter is not ended.”
He said the substantive matter, which is determining the legality of the EC’s decision, will be heard on Tuesday October 11.
Apart from the GHS 50,000 fee for presidential nominees, the EC also fixed the filing fee for parliamentary aspirants at GHS 10, 000.
The PPP said although it was not seeking a reduction in the fees, it wanted a law to be put in place by which the EC would fix filing fees rather than the current situation where the fees are set “arbitrarily”.
