Policeman killed by armed robbers
A police officer, Emound Kwakuvi, stationed at Wechiau in the Wa West District of the Upper West region has been multiple times to death a by some men believed to be armed robbers along the Wechiau -Tokali road.
The incident occurred on saturday between 10:00 to 11:00pm when the officer was reporting to duty at the residence of the Wa west district chief executive.
Eyewitnesses say, the deceased officer was spotted at a shop, buying call recharge cards in Wechiau,where he (deceased) met one Agba, a civilian, and asked him for a ride on his (Agba) motorbike to the DCE’s residence.
According to reports, they spotted two motor bikes coming towards them with top speed whiles on their way to the Dce’s residence, so Kwakuvi signaled them with his flashlight to stop and they did, without knowing he was a police officer.
The riders upon realizing a police officer had stopped them, got off their bikes and opened fire on the police officer.
The officer sustained multiple gun shot wounds but Agba however managed to escape unhurt.
Agba rushed to town and reported the incident. People rushed to the scene but the gunmen had already bolted and left a sack of live cartridges at the scene.
The officer was immediately rushed to the District Hospital in Wechiau and was pronounced dead by the medical officer of the facility upon arrival.
The mortal remains of the officer has since been transported to the Wa regional mortuary.
