“We are going for revenge against Egypt”- Asamoah Gyan
Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has stated that the team wants to even the score against the Egyptians when they meet on Wednesday in the final Group D encounter of the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The two teams met in November 2016 in Alexandria in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and Egypt beat Ghana 2-0 thanks to goals from Mohammed Salah and Abdallah Saied.
The score was revenge for Egypt who had been beaten 6-1 in Kumasi by Ghana in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. But ahead of the match on Wednesday, Gyan has drawn the battle lines by saying that he and his team mates will look to put another one over the Pharoahs.
“As we always say, we are coming for revenge against Egypt.
They beat us at their place in the qualifiers and we want to come for revenge.
We want to make our country happy and we want to win,” the player at the official pre-match press conference on Monday.
He went on: “It does not matter what tactics they bring. We have a great coach who also has plans for them. That makes the game interesting.
Things a little different now because we are in a tournament setting but for me, it is clear that we are coming into the game to win.
They also want to win so we will see what happens.” Ghana needs to avoid defeat to top the group and stay in Port Gentil for the quarter final against the second-placed team in Group C.
