A/R : Bad roads hindering proper healthcare at Ankaase Hospital

The administrator of the Ankaase hosipital in the Affigya kwabre East district of the Ashanti region,  Mr Amankwah has made a passionate appeal to the government to as a matter of urgency reconstruct their link road which is in a deplorable state in order to save lives.

According to him, the deplorable state of the link road to the hospital has made it totally unmotorable especially during the rainy season and therefore poses a serious threat to patience with emergency cases especially pregnant women in labour.

Mr Amankwah lamented that, it mostly becomes challenging when transporting patients with excessive bleeding , pregnant women and other emergency cases from the hospital to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching hospital.

He disclosed that patients are sometimes carried on shoulders  for several miles on foot before they get vehicles to convey them to the hospital, a situation he noted contributes to child and maternal deaths.

Assembly member for the area, Hon Francis Yamoah explained that due to the bad nature of the road network, child death and maternal mortality keeps increasing because of the difficulties they encounter when transporting patience to and from the hospital.

According to him, the road was constructed in 2004 by the Kufuor-led administration but heavy duty trucks going in and out from a quarry site in the area have taken a toll on the road and destroyed it completely.

He believes that, the area which is hometown for prominent people like former first Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Former Attorney general Betty Mould Iddrisu, Founder and leader of Ghana freedom party Madam Akua Donkor, Akwasi Addei Odike, Nana Agyenim Boateng a.k.a. Gyataba and Dr AmoakoTumffour has been neglected by government because all efforts to get help in constructing their road have proven futile.
