”Burn Galamsey Equipment” – MCE tells residents

The Municipal Chief executive for Bekwai, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour has encouraged residents of galamsey-hit towns in the municipality to burn equipment of any illegal miner who attemps to sneak in at night to carry out galamsey operations.

”If we burn their equipments, they will be discouraged from continuing with this illegal activity”.

Despite the ban on the activities of illegal miners in the country, some of these galamsey operators in the bekwai municipality mostly sneak in at night to carry out their operations to avoid detection and arrest by the anti-galamsey task force.

But speaking on the sidelines of the first ordinary assembly general meeting of the Bekwai municipal assembly, Hon. Kyei Baffour charged residents in the various towns to form committees to confront these illegal miners and possibly burn their mining equipment during day time when they are absent.

He revealed that the assembly has arrested some of these illegal miners and confiscated about 4 of their equipment from two towns in the municipality.

”We have constituted a municipal task force which is ready to act on any informtion on the activities of illegal miners..we do not want to entertain galamsey so we will chase them until they stop.”

Hon. Kyei Baffour explained that he represents President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is against galamsey activities and as such cannot act differently.
