Petition Against EC Boss; the law must work- Ameyaw Kyeremeh

The Member of Parliament for Suyani East, Hon. Ameyaw Kyeremeh has said that the laws of the country must reign supreme in the issue between the Chairperson of the elctoral commission, Charlotte Osei and her aggrieved staff.

Hon Kyeremeh is of the view that the aggrieved EC staff have the right to petiotion the president just as Madam Charlotte Osei also has the constitutional right to take legal action but should proceed with caution.

The opposition National Democratic Congress at a press conference yesterday, warned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to stop attempts to remove the Chairperson of the “independent” Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei.

The opposition NDC has vowed to resist any attempts by the Npp government to “witch-hunt” the head of the election management body.

But the Majority Chief Whip believes the minority is reading political meanings into the matter because they are being chased by their own shadow.

According to him, the minority thinks the npp is ”witch-hunting” the EC boss because of how they fiercely protested for the removal of the Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood when they were in power.

”If her own colleagues have petitioned the president about her conduct, we only have to wait on the president who will in turn send the case to the chief justice for thorough investigation and decision on the matter as prescribed by the constitution of Ghana.”

Hon. Kyeremeh indicated that in spite of the constitutional backing, the EC Chairperson could still be impeached if a court rules that her actions flout the laws governing the institution.
