Prez Akufo-Addo takes no Per Diem – Perry Okudzeto

A Deputy Minister for Information, Hon. Perry okudzeto has stated that President Nana Addo dankwa Akufo-Addo takes no per diem for his numerous trips outside the country.

The opposition National democratic Congress at a press conference on Thursady called President Akufo-Addo ”an alien who spends more time abroad than home” and demanded how much is paid to him as per diem for his many travels outide the country.

“Is it $5000 or $4000 as is being rumoured?” “How much do his aides also take? Is it $2000 or $1000 as being rumoured?” NDC National Chairman Kofi Portuphy asked at a press conference on Thursday to assess the president’s first six months in office.

But Deputy Information Minister Perry Okudzeto says, the president is only concerned about finding better ways to develop the nation by making capital of our natural resources to benefit the good people of Ghana.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo has never received any payments covering his living expenses when traveling for work just as he refused to take any per diem and fuel allowance as minister under the Kufour regime.

Hon. Perry Okudzeto explained that his excellency the president considers the ECOWAS region as a bigger market which could create a platform for marketing the many products Ghana will produce under the 1 district 1 factory initiative, hence the numerous trips aimed at creating a ready market and improving trade relations with countries in the region.

He described the assertion that the president travels too much as ”much ado about nothing” and explained that it is the prerogative of the president to travel as much as he wants to leverage on his position to rake into the country more investments.
