Wranglings at EC, Terribly Unfortunate – NDC MP

Member of parliament for Yilo Krobo in the eastern region Hon. Magnus Kofi Amoatey has bemoaned the accusations and counter accusations levelled against each other by the EC chair Charlotte Osei and the staff of the commission who petitioned the president for her removal.

A group, calling itself concerned workers of the Electoral Commission (EC) petitioned the President and the Chief Justice to begin impeachment processes against the Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei.

The EC chair responded to all allegations leveled against her and in turn accused her deputy commissioners of insubordination, corruption, breach of financial administration laws and incompetence.

But Hon. Amoatey who is also a Member of the legal and constitutional affairs of parliament descibed the wranglings as sad and unfortunate especially at a time when Ghana’s election governing body is revered the world over for it’s fairness and integrity.

According to him, the decision by the EC chair to respond to the accusations in the petition with facts aimed at implicating her colleague commissioners suggests equalization and would rather she had kept calm for the president to decide on the matter with the Chief Justice as stated in the constitution.

He called on President Akufo-Addo to set the machinery in motion for investigations into the allegations to start since the EC chair has decided to respond to the petition with counter accusations on social and traditional media.

”The fact that she has responded to the accusations gives a clear indication that she has something to say so she must be put through the impeachment process”, he told an Accra based radio station.
