Otiko Calls for One District One Breast Care Center

Hon. Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minster for Gender, Children and Social protection has called on well meaning Ghanaians to facilitate the establishment of one breast care center in every district of the country.

”if we are able to do one district one factory, we can equally do one district one breast care center unit because we can only work when we are fit and healthy, and this will help take treatment of breast cancer to the community level”, she opined.

Speaking on the sidelines of the formal opening of the National Basic Oncology Training program for community based nurses by Breast Care International, the minister noted that such an initiative would go a long way to bring treatment to the district level.

This according to her will help in the early detection and prevention of breast cancer to save women who would have lost their dear lives as a result of the disease.

She noted that, to emulate the CEO of breast care international, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe, other well to do Ghanaians can also facilitate the establishment of these breast care centers in their respective districts to give the fight against breast cancer a boost.

”It behoves on you the media, chiefs, the Gender ministry and all of us as stakeholders to act and not just look on or ask what government is doing about it, because, if Dr. Beatrice has been able to do it, you can also do it, so let’s come together, identify and get early treatment”, she advised.

Hon. Otiko entreated women and men living with symptoms of the disease to report to the various health facilities to begin early detection for prevention of breast and cervical cancer.

The Gender Ministry, she said is ready to partner Breast Care International to bring an end to deaths caused by breast and cervical cancer.
