Ghanaian ‘Yankee’ demo was an embarrassment – Owusu Bempah

The Communications Director for the Ghana Gas Company, Ernest Owusu Bempah has described the demonstration organized by Ghanaians in New York against president Akufo-Addo as a disgrace and total embarrassment.

“It was a total embarrassment to whoever sponsored them to organize such a demonstration. They could have done it in a different way by just holding their placards to disseminate any information they wanted to tell the government,”

“it is a disgrace, the Americans were even astonished,” he said.

“If somebody has given you money to do a demonstration, you have to use your conscience, the only difference God made between Human beings and animals is conscience,” he fumed.

Scores of Ghanaians in New York, the United States of America calling themselves “Concern Ghanaian citizens in USA” on Thursday, 21 September 2017 demonstrated against the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the demonstrators, cost of living has risen sharply under the NPP administration making life unbearable for Ghanaians.

The demonstrators also claim that the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government is deliberately targeting former government appointees for prosecution.

The protests happened at a time the President was delivering his maiden speech at the UN General Assembly.

“Mr. President Leave Charlotte Osei alone, Mr. President Stop the lawlessness by your vigilantes, Stop the witch-hunting among others were some of the inscriptions on the placards.

The theme for the demonstration was “Ghana is not safe under the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP government.”

Speaking to Otec FM, Mr. Ernest Owusu Bempah stated that though they have the right to demonstrate, they could have raised concerns on the newly implemented free SHS program which parents in Ghana are praising the President for introducing.
