No money to fix water system in Baba Yara Sports Stadium –NSA Boss
The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah has bemoaned the lack of money to fix the water system in Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
According to the former Legislature, the old water system needs to be changed but his outfit lack resources to fix the perennial problem.
Speaking in an interview on Otec fm’ Royal Sports, hosted by Isaac Osei Akoto Kanu, Hon.Sarfo Mensah disclosed that, there wasn’t any budget from the Finance Ministry to service for the dysfunctional water system.
“The past government never budgeted for the dysfunctional water system,” he added.
“I would appeal to the government to provide some amount of money to fix the problem because it’s very worrying that a whole international stadium like Baba Yara, lacks water to serve its spectators,” he bemoaned.
Baba Yara sports stadium was among the stadia, alongside Ohene Djan sports stadium in Accra, that were renovated to meet international standard for the hosting of Cup of African Nations (CAN) in 2008.
Hon.Sarfo Mensah said engineers have advised for the complete overhaul of the sewerage system but the meager budgetary allocation for the NSA cannot be used to fix it.
“The advice from the engineers will calls for a lot of money for the service, meanwhile the budget allocation for entire NSA is too small that there is no amount left for that project,” he explained.
“We will appeal to the government to provide some amount to fix the water problem because it’s unbearable,” he concluded.
