Liberty Professionals sold, name changed to Okwawu Football Club

Information reaching Otec Fm Royal Sports indicates that, plans are far advanced for the ‘Scientific Soccer Lads’ to change ownership, switch of home grounds to Nkawkaw Sports Stadium and if the legal bottleneck considering the transfer is cleared the team would be called Okwawu Football Club.

Nkawkaw and its environs will from next season witness premier league football following plans by Hon Bryan Acheampong to take over Liberty Professionals as the new owner.

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency who is keen on securing a premier league club for his constituents played a major role in helping popular team in the area Okwawu United regain promotion to the elite division but his efforts were thwarted by demotion to the second division hence switching his attention to the Dansoman based club Liberty Professional.

The sale was imminent following the inability of the club to meet the financial demands which forced ex-player and the captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan to help them offset some outstanding bonuses where they finished just above the relegation zone.

Liberty Professionals are credited with unearthing and development of players to the various Ghana national teams who have made a very huge impact in the world including former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, John Paintsil, Derek Boateng, Sulley Muntari, Ahmed Barruso , Baffuor Gyan and Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah who is currently playing for Italian giant Juventus.

The takeover is expected to lessen the financial burden of the club to facilitate its smooth administration and also to serve the people of Okwawu premier league actions after Okwawu United’s inability to qualify from division one.
