NHIS Subscribers Elated Abolishing of Capitation

Subscribers of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Ashanti Region have welcomed news of the suspension of capitation policy.

“We are most grateful to the Akufo-Addo led government  to abolish the capitation introduced to kill us”, NHIS subscribers in the Kumasi metropolis expressed their joy.
The erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration in 2012 piloted the policy in the region to reduce corruption in the NHIS despite stiff rejection from then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the time.
Seven months in office, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government  announced  to abolish the policy they described as “killer” after cabinet decision.
A statement released Tuesday July 25 by the NHIA said, after several complaints, the government has abolished  the system with immediate effect from 1st August, 2017.
Reacting to the announcement, some subscribers on the principal streets of Adum, Bantama and other suburbs expressed gratitude to government.
“We are happy that we can now have access to every healthcare facility in the country…we are much grateful to the government and President Akufo-Addo”, the elated residents told otec FM.
“We also want government to cut down taxes on our businesses.  High taxes are collapsing our businesses so Mr. President do something about it”, they appealed.
