Devise ways of increasing IGFs-Minister to newly created assemblies

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, has charged the Krowor Municipal Assembly and other newly-created district assemblies to devise ways of increasing internally generated funds (IGFs).

According to her, Krowor and other new assemblies within the urban areas of Accra, can do better in mobilising funds for development without over-reliance on the district assemblies’ common fund which often delays.

Speaking to to newsmen after an event to officially inaugurate all the 38 assemblies into operation, Mrs Mahama said seed money will be made available to the assemblies but added that they must also work to generate some revenue.

She added that Krowor and Ledzokuku will have to share the third and fourth quarter common funds. The minister further revealed that government has plans to build a befitting office complex to house the assemblies.

For her part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Krowor, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, explained that the creation of the Krowor Assembly is in line with the commitments of the Akufo-Addo government to develop the area.

She said the assembly has the human resource capacity to work effectively and bemoaned the agitations that often characterised the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE’s).

Ms Quaye empasised that needless misunderstandings associated with such appointments only stall developmental projects to the detriment of the assembly.
