Man commits suicide by hanging at Wasa Hintaado

A 54-year old man, Kwaku Awuni, “aka Santo” has committed suicide by hanging at Wasa Hintaado in the Amenfi East district of the Western region.

The deceased brother,  Mr. Kofi Azuma, said his brother (Kwaku Awuni) had attempted to commit suicide by taking poisonous substance last week but he was stopped whilst the substance was retrieved from him. He was even threatened with police arrest if he repeated the action.

Mr. Azuma further revealed that he had a call from the deceased man’s children that he had left home with a sponge and so he decided to trace his brother, Kwaku Awuni only to come across his lifeless body hanging in a cocoa plantation.

The Chief of the Wasa Hintaado, Nana Kofi Boateng, attributed the recent incomprehensible and untimely deaths in the community to the ban   on galamsey activities.

He therefore appealed to the government and the security agencies, especially the operation vanguard to step-up in the fight against the dreaded illegal mining “galamsey” in order to curtail the recent mishaps in the area. Nana Kofi Boateng challenged the police to properly investigate circumstances surrounding the death of Kwaku Awuni so that every doubt would be cleared.

“our reporters on the ground are following the case to bring more information on this unfortunate case.”
