GHS400K filling fees:  An agenda to sell NDC to Mahama – George Boateng

A flagbearer aspirant for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr George Boateng has described amount being charged by the party leadership as filing fee for flagbearer aspirant as outrageous and an agenda by the National Executive Council (NEC) to sell the NDC to former President John Mahama.

All male flag bearer aspirants of the NDC are expected to pay GHS 400,000 as filing fee while female flag bearer aspirants are to pay GHS 200,000 and persons with disability aspiring to the same position are to pay GHS 150,000.

The nomination form for the flag bearer slot is going for GHS 20,000. Also, Parliamentary aspirants are expected to pay GHS 20,000 as filing fees of which female aspirants will pay have of that.

The party took the decision at a NEC meeting on Thursday November 29 at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

So far, twelve people including former President John Dramani Mahama have indicated their interest to run for the flag bearer slot of the party in the presidential primaries scheduled for 19 January 2019.

Several political analysts and party faithfuls have raised red flag at the NEC’s decision as they believe the amount involved may scare most interested people from contesting in the race.

Sharing his views and thoughts on the filing fee saga, Mr. Boateng who was disqualified in the last flag bearership race says, the decision is a harsh one and believes is a move to pave way for former President Mahama to go unopposed since the amount could make some of the aspirants pull out from the race.

According to him, the GHS 420,000 filing fee would be huge for most of the aspirants except with persons who may have gotten their monies wrongly.

Speaking in an interview with Agya Wusu Ansah on OTEC FM’s afternoon political talkshow dubbed DWABEREM, Mr. George Boateng called on the the BNI, EOCO, National Security and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to investigate former President John Mahama as he believes there is a skeleton hidden in his (Mahama) cupboard which could be linked to corrupt activities whiles he was in power.

Mr Boateng concluded that the amount is against the basics on which the party was formed since it is entrenchment of moneycracy.
