First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called for increase awareness and improvement of cancer care in the country.
She called for collaboration between government and private entities to improve cancer care by providing the necessary equipment and infrastructure.
She bemoaned the negative impact cancer possess to individuals, families and society due to the costly nature of treating the disease.
Mrs Akufo-Addo said this at the World Cancer Day celebration held in Kumasi on the theme:” I’m and I will”.
For her part, Princess Dina Mired of Jordan who doubles as President of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) also urged government to prioritise improve cancer care in Ghana.
She called for systems and proper mechanisms to be put in place to fight cancer.
She said without proper organisation and partnership between government and private entities it will be difficult to fight the disease.
Princess Mired said she was a mother of victim of the disease, and for that reason, she decided to help to improve cancer care.
