The police have levelled four charges against the national chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

The four charges Graphic Online gathers are threat of harm, conspiracy to harm, rioting and assaulting of public officials.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo has reportedly denied that the audio is his voice and has also refused to comment on doctored audio, Graphic Online gathers.

The police are considering to grant him bail after being at the CID headquarters close to 10 hours

He has since written his statement.

Excuses

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo after failing to honour two previous invitations to appear before the CID due to “bereavement”, availed himself in the company of leading party members to be interrogated about the leaked audio which he denied is his voice.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was expected to appear before the CID last Thursday after the police had invited him to speak to a leaked audio recording that allegedly had him speaking about several issues, including attacks on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Chairman of the Peace Council, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante.

The CID issued a press statement last Wednesday explaining that they had invited the NDC national chairman to assist the police with investigations into a leaked audio recording, but his lawyers said their client did not receive any official invitation until late afternoon last Thursday.

The party executives joined their chairman to the CID office in solidarity while their supporters massed up at the entrance to the CID headquarters demanding his release. The supporters had accused the police of a deliberate attempt to frustrate their chairman who had endured over five hours of interrogation.
