An Accra based Banker Mr Philip Ofori Asante has submitted his nomination forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries at the Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region slated for April this year.
Mr. Ofori Asante and his supporters stormed the party office clad in his t-shirts and party paraphernalia amidst singing and dancing.
Briefing the party supporters, the Constituency Chairman, Mr.Akwasi Nti appealed to the candidates and their supporters not to indulge in any form of insults and attacks on their opponents since the contest is a family affair.
He further appealed to the candidates to engage in clean campaign and see each other as one family and not enemies. He said, per the party guidelines, any candidate who maligns other opponents in the family race would be sanctioned.
Speaking to OTEC News’ Kwame Agyenim Boateng in an interview on Friday February 14, 2020, Mr. Ofori Asante who is also accomplished Businessman pledged to abide by the guidelines of the party’s electoral process and advised his supporters not to engage in any form of abusive language against his opponent during their campaign.
According to him, there is the need for a strong unity within the party in the constituency before, during and after the primaries to face the ruling NDC in 2020.
Mr Asante added that, failure of the incumbent Member of Parliament Hon. Andrews Asiamah to deliver on his campaign promises has positioned him a good chance to win the primaries come April 25th and the call for change.
Mr. Ofori Asante further pledged to meet the demands of the people within the constituency adding that the people of Fomena contributed massively to his achievements in politics, therefore it is his responsibility to give back to them by improving their living standards and bring massive development to the constituency when given the nod to lead the party in the constituency.
Mr. Ofori Asante expressed his profound gratitude to God almighty for his favour and mercy and further expressed gratitude to the constituency executives for their commitment and hard work and assures that their commitment and effort to the party will not be in vain.
Brief Profile
-Mr. Philip Ofori-Asante is an accomplished Banker with over 15 years in senior managerial roles having attained leadership roles in both international and local banks in Ghana.
-The banker who is credited in the NPP fraternity for the sponsoring the New Patriotic Party to win the Adansi-Fomena, Adansi-Asokwa, Adansi- Akrofuom and the New Edubaise parliamentary seats has served as a board member on Unique Oil Company Limited , Union Savings Company Limited 2010 to date,and Adansi Rural Bank Limited from 2000 to date.
-In November 2010 – March 2012 Mr Asante was the General Manager of Intercontinental Bank Ghana Limited .
-He has also Provided leadership for a number of branches in the Retail network in Accra, Kumasi, Techiman, Takoradi and Tarkwa clusters.
-He was also Responsibility for Public Sector Financing and Corporate Banking sectors of Mining, Power and Upstream Oil and Gas Desks
-In February to August 2010 Mr Philip Asante was the Head of Whole Sale Banking at Merchant Bank Ghana Limited
-He again serve as a key member of the core management team tasked to lead and transform a loss making bank into profitability at the same bank.
-Led the Corporate and Business Banking segments of the bank, Corporate Finance and Advisory Services and the Registrars units. Also anchored the setting up of the Pre- Recoveries Unit, Credit Support Unit within the Corporate and business Banking Unit, Trade Sales Unit, Transactional Products and Services Units.
-Anchored the Management Development Programme within the Corporate and Business Banking Units to ensure and sustain career succession planning among others.
