Abronye DC arrested, charged over Mahama coup claim

Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been arrested and charged on two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.

Abronye DC reported to the Accra Regional Police Command following an invitation extended to him to assist investigation.

He is alleged to have said that former President John Mahama is allegedly planning to stage a coup in the country.

According to the police, preliminary investigation has established his claims against the former president are untrue and likely to occasion a breach of peace.

“ In view of this, he has been formally arrested and charged on two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” the police said.

An earlier statement issued by the police on Tuesday (15 February) asked Abronye DC to report to the police headquarters by 4pm today to assist with investigations.

“The attention of the Police Service was drawn to a publication in which Kwame Baffoe Alias Abronye DC is alleged to have said that former President John Mahama is allegedly planning to stage a coup.

“The Accra Regional Police Command has invited Kwame Baffoe to report to the regional headquarters by 4pm today to assist investigation failure of which he will be arrested,” the police statement said.
