New Regions: Nana Addo settles with Techiman and Goaso as Bono East and Ahafo regional capitals respectively

Information reaching otecfmghana.con indicates that, the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has penciled Techiman and Goaso for regional capital for Bono East and Ahafo regions respectively.

As a new region that is seeking to experience a smooth and speedy take-off in its development, it will be imperative for government to select a town that has the resource capacity to host the region’s Administrative capital.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, will from Tuesday, February 12, 2019, publicly present Constitutional Instruments (C.I.s) to give effect to the creation of the six (6) new regions.

This was contained in a statement issued Saturday, February 9, 2019, by the Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

The president, through the Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development, has carved out six new regions from the existing 10 regions.

The newly created regions are North East, Savannah, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North and Oti Regions.

Among other towns in the Bono East region, Techiman stands tall as the most prepared and strategically positioned town in the newly created Bono region so as Goaso for Ahafo Region that meets any pre-condition as a justification for siting a regional capital.

The following are the factors that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo depended to consider Techiman as the most preferred destination for the regional capital of Bono East Region:

1. POPULATION: Techiman is the most populated town in the region with a total population of 251,284(GSS 2018), and a Voter population of 152,209 (EC 2018).Techiman per its current population qualifies to be raised to a Metropolitan status.

2. MARKET/TRADE: Techiman has one of the largest Markets in the West Africa sub-region which serves as the economic hub of the region.

3. FINANCIAL SERVICES: The economic viability of Techiman has attracted 15 of the major commercial banks in Ghana namely:
i. GCB; NIB; ADB; UMB; Ecobank; Republic Bank; First Atlantic Bank; FBN Bank; Omni Bank; Access Bank; Prudential Bank; Fidelity Bank; Barclays Bank; GT Bank; CBG;
ii. There are also over 30 Non-Bank Financial institutions including Rural Banks, Savings and Loans Companies and Cooperative Credit Unions.

4. REVENUE MOBILIZATION: The Techiman GRA Small Tax Office (STO) superintends over the following Municipal/Districts in the Bono East region:
i. Nkoranza North and South
ii. Atebubu-Amantin;
iii. Kintampo North and South
iiii. Pru East and West
v. Sene East and West
