Aboabo No.2 residents cry over citing of court building

Some angry youth and residents of Aboabo number 2 in the Asokore mampong municipal  of the ashanti region have expressed their frustration over the citing of a court building by the municipal assembly.

Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has constructed a permanent structure, a court building on the road side at Aboabo in the municipality.

The angry youth and residents at a press conference, claimed that the structure pose a threat to livelihoods in the area and that the citing of the building was within the area reserved for a road, and could not be used for  a permanent structure.

They contend that the permanent structure will deprive them of easy access from their houses to the main road incase of emergencies.

They are afraid that their freedom to go about their daily activities in their homes will be tampered with, because the court could easily charge them for contempt whenever they made noise.

The residents who are mostly muslims, noted that their most-attended Friday prayers known as the Jumua’ah could also be affected if the court is opened, because they use loud megaphones during the service.

In October 2014, two residents of the area filed a suit at the Kumasi Circuit Court to restrain the assembly and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan, from building this permanent structure but the case is still in court and no judgement has been reached.
