The twelve (12) elected assembly members in the Asokwa Municipality have unanimously declared their support for the incumbent Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Hon Patricia Appiagyei as the latter attempts a 4th term bid as NPP Parliamentary candidate.

Addressing a press conference Wednesday morning, Elliot Fosu Barnor, Presiding Member for the Asokwa Municipal Assembly said the female legislator deserved the 4th term she is seeking for.

According to Mr Barnor, the Asokwa MP has demonstrated awesome knowledge about the workings of the assembly and was not surprising that she was the one who lobbied that Asokwa becomes a Municipality in the first term of the Akufo-Addo administration.

“Each of the twelve assembly Members gathered here have had the benefit of seeing proper development projects and programmes including basic amenities in the area of health, security, social empowerment and youth employment”, the Presiding Member stated.

Works Convener:

On his part, the elected assembly member for Ahinsan Estate, Nana Yaw Wiredu said the incumbent MP has for eleven years ensured that each of the elected assembly members has access to street lights.

He also noted they have gotten support for schools in their localities as well as school infrastructure and other incentives for people doing their own businesses.

The Assembly member noted that apart from her unparalleled knowledge of the local assembly concept, Madam Appiagyei has been at meetings in Asokwa and together with the Municipal Chief Executive lobbied for road infrastructure projects, clinics and social empowerment programmes for the people in the Municipality.

“Currently we have the Lady Julia Clinic and the under construction modern clinic for Asokwa old town as well as other Chp compounds in the Municipality. We can also boast of the good roads that we have now and many other infrastructure projects scattered across the twelve electoral areas as proof of work and lobbying skills of Madam Appiagyei”, Nana Yaw Wiredu noted.

Background:

Hon Patricia Appiagyei is the foremost female Member of  Parliament (MP) for Asokwa.

In 2011, she defeated the then two time MP for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah in the internal parliamentary primary for Asokwa NPP.

In the subsequent parliamentary election in Asokwa in 2012, the female legislator beat other candidates from the other competing political parties to stake a first term in Parliament.

Hon Appiagyei from 2012 has gone on to win two subsequent elections in 2016 and 202 to represent Asokwa constituents in Parliament.

The female legislator is now attempting a 4th term bid and would on 27th January,  2024 come against two aspirants who have shown interest in contesting to lay claim to the status as NPP MP candidate for Asokwa for the 2024 election.
