Tension is brewing at the Kumasi Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region over alleged sale of trading spaces to multiple buyers

Some agitated traders are up in arms with the management of the facility with report that, some individuals claiming to be members of the facility’s management have taking huge sums of money with the promise of allotting them space to trade but have failed to do so

The aggrieved traders in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Wednesday March 20, 2024 revealed that, they have paid monies to one Nana Poku, a man who is said to be in charge of operations at the facility, but have clashed with other traders on the same small space in question

The irate traders disclosed that, they were coerced to pay double the official amount to get the space but are still battling with their fellow traders for the same place after paying the exorbitant fee.

Political Undertone

The situation has taking political tone as some traders have accused the leadership of governing New Patriotic Party NPP in the Ashanti Region for allowing this to happen

According to them, they have been informed that, most of the spaces they want belong to some political figures in the region and they have to pay double the amount to get it.

The traders have vowed to advise themselves come 2024 polls if nothing is done about the situation immediately.

Nana Poku’s respond

Reaction to the allegations, the accused in questions, Nana Poku said he only collected monies authorized by the management

While denying taking double payments from the traders, he confirmed that, they indeed demarcated a place which was initially accommodating eight traders to ten, something which clearly did not go well with the traders.

Manager’s Reaction

When contacted by OTEC News, the Managing Director for the facility, Mr Kofi Duffour confirmed they were officially given out spaces to traders at an agreed fees

He however denied having any knowledge of people taking double the amount from the traders. He has therefore urged the traders to come to his office for the issue to be resolved.
