REINSTATE KWABENA AGYEPONG AS THE GENERAL SECRETARY-PATRIOTIC FOOT-SOLDIERS PETITIONS PARTY

Some polling station executives in the Ashanti Region are calling for the reinstatement of Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, who was suspended indefinitely by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) months before the 2016 elections.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Monday, October 16 Mr Tweneboah Kodua, convener for the group, appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the National Executive Council of the party and former President John Agyekum Kufuor, to reconsider the suspension and call Mr Agyapong back.

“… so our humble appeal to the National Council of the party is to recall Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong back to his office,” he stated.

The NEC of the opposition New Patriotic Party acted based on findings of the party’s Disciplinary Committee and suspended Kwabena Agyepong, together with 2nd Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe.

Both of them were handed indefinite suspensions on Dec 10, 2015 after a meeting held by the NEC members at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

The suspensions follow a petition brought forth by some NPP members who accused the two of undermining the party’s authority of the party.

READ THE FULL STATESMAENT

We the undersigned members of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region wish to appeal to the National Council of the NPP to consider reinstating the elected  General Secretary of our dear party the NPP to his position.

We recall that on the 10th of December 2015 the National Executive Committee of the party suspended Mr Agyepong on the recommendations of the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

Our humble appeal to the National Council of the party is based on the following reasons;

  1. That Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong accepted his suspension with grace and has since conducted himself with civility which clearly portrays him as a true patriot of our party.
  2. We are also aware that in the run up to the general election 0f 2016, in spite of his suspension, Mr. Agyepong materially supported several distressed constituencies across the country notably in the Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti. This is a clear illustration of his deep love and loyalty to the party.
  3. Moreover despite his suspension he joined delegates around the country to grace the party’s annual conference in Cape Coast recently.

To conclude Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has been a longstanding stalwart of the tradition from his prominent role in the difficult formative years preceding the return to democratic rule in 1992 and his selfless dedicated service to the NPP is a matter of public record.

We the undersigned members of the NPP therefore humbly and passionately appeal to the National Council to reinstate Mr Kwabena Agyepong to his elected position as General Secretary of our dear party the NPP.

We hope our petition will meet your favorable response.

Respectfully submitted.

Yours in the Service of our dear party.
