The Kumasi Race Course Market’s trade groups have also joined the calls for Akosua Frema Opare-Osei, the Chief of Staff of the Presidency, to be named as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the December 2024 elections.
According to the groups the Chief of Staff has shown against all reasonable doubt her leadership qualities and her partnership with Dr Bawumia will be in total fulfillment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s mantra ‘breaking the eight’.
Their appeals came following Kumasi Kejetia traders’ appeal to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to appoint Akosua Frema Opare-Osei as his running mate in appreciation for the Ashanti region’s undying support for the party.
The traders comprising fishmongers, fruiterers, greengrocers, and clothiers among others made the call during a press conference on Monday, in solidarity to the Chief of Staff’s gestures towards the Race Course Market in recent times, where they made the appeal.
Among the gestures according to the traders, include the reconstruction of the market at three different occasions following fire outbreaks, and the reconstruction of some lead roads in the market, which she solely financed.
In the appeals to the National Council of the NPP, the traders maintained that Akosua Frema Opare-Osei’s success as a Chief of Staff in ensuring the smooth functioning of the government machinery places her as the best choice for the running mate slot.
“Akosua Frema Opare-Osei, as a woman, has the ability to canvass votes in Ashanti, the party’s vote’s stronghold, and other regions for NPP to maintain political power in the December 7 polls; she really appeals to both women and men,” a yam seller stated.
“Maame Akosua Frema Opare-Osei has shown signs of good leadership, and love for the people, she is well respected by walks of people in the country, and everything shows that when given the chance to lead, she can deliver to the expectation of the people,” a watermelon posited.
Another trader also said, “Since the NPP leadership has agreed on choosing the running mate from the Ashanti region, we don’t need any more person than Maame Frema Opare because she the ability to mobilize more votes for the party through her lobbying skills.”
