Amma Bempomaa Oppong Mensah, Press Aide to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Running Mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has clarified the party’s stance on mining.
Oppong Mensah, in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng on Thursday September 12, 2024, said Dr. Prempeh is not opposed to responsible mining practices but strongly condemns illegal mining activities that harm the environment.
This clarification comes amidst circulating reports on social media suggesting Dr. Prempeh promised to release seized excavators of illegal miners if the NPP wins the 2024 election.
Oppong Mensah dismissed these reports as doctored and misleading.
She emphasized that Dr. Prempeh and the NPP support sustainable and regulated mining practices that benefit the country and its citizens, but will not tolerate illegal activities that destroy the environment and put lives at risk.
Oppong Mensah urged the public to be cautious of false information and to verify facts before sharing or believing them.
The NPP has been highlighting its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development as part of its campaign ahead of the 2024 election.
