The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to live up to the overwhelming mandate granted to them by the people of Ghana.
Speaking following their victory in the 7 December election, Mr Bagbin emphasized the responsibility tied to their emphatic win.
“I applaud the president-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the vice president-elect, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, for scoring an emphatic victory and a heavy mandate of Ghanaians at the just-ended general elections. I need not remind anyone of the saying that to whom much is given, much is expected,” he stated.
The Speaker reminded the new leadership that their campaign promises to “reset Ghana” has received overwhelming voter endorsement, placing a significant obligation on them to deliver meaningful outcomes.
“Your promise to reset Ghana has been massively endorsed by the voters, and you cannot afford to disappoint them,” Bagbin added.
He also expressed confidence in Parliament’s role as a collaborative partner in the governance process, assuring that the legislature will act as a dependable ally and an effective gatekeeper to uphold the integrity of the promised reforms.
“I trust Parliament will be a reliable partner and a gatekeeper to ensure a just delivery of that promise,” Bagbin concluded.
