Military deployed after incidents of vandalism at Tepa
There is a heavy military deployment at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency of the Ashanti Region after some individuals believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) went on a rampage, setting private and public property ablaze.
The irate supporters have reportedly burnt some structures at the Tepa Senior High School where ballot materials used for Saturday’s presidential and parliamentary elections were kept.
They have also reportedly besieged a local radio station belonging to the 2024 New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary candidate and ransacked a building used as a warehouse.
One of the vehicles belonging to the NPP’s candidate, who is the current Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Nana Agyemang Prempeh, has been set ablaze.
Reports indicated the whereabouts of Nana Agyemang Prempeh are not known, as his bodyguard is reportedly injured but the Police has dismissed those reports and confirmed that Mr Agyemang Prempeh is safe.
Results for the Ahafo Ano North Presidential and Parliamentary polls are in contention, and the Electoral Commission (EC) has put the declaration on hold.
The collation centre was ransacked and the ballot materials were destroyed, making it difficult to determine the real figures.
The military is currently in the area to restore order.
