Kwadwo Safo, 8 others granted GH¢500k bail each in Adwoa Safo shooting case

The nine individuals accused in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo have been granted bail by the court.

They were admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 each with two sureties. The sureties are not required to be justified, but must sign a bail justification form as part of the court’s conditions.

The accused persons have all pleaded not guilty to five charges, including use of offensive weapon, possession of offensive weapon, prohibition of vigilante groups, discharging of firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.

The case arises from a shooting incident that occurred during a gathering linked to the Kristo Asafo Mission, which has been embroiled in a leadership dispute following the death of its founder, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Among the accused are Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, the brother of the injured former MP, along with Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam.

The rest are Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom. Some of the accused are reported to be personal bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Kantanka Akofena.

Prosecutors say the alleged shooting, which resulted in injuries to Ms. Adwoa Safo, occurred during activities connected to a disputed installation process within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The court is expected to continue hearing the matter as investigations proceed.
