The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected claims that it owes the Bank of Ghana (BoG) an unpaid overdraft of GH¢1 billion, describing the allegation as false and malicious.
The claim was reportedly made by the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Dr Gideon Boako.
In a statement, GoldBod said it had taken note of the allegation and strongly disputed it, describing it as part of what it termed a “deliberate and malicious smear campaign” against the institution.
GoldBod stressed that since its establishment, it has never taken a loan, overdraft or any other debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution.
“For the records, the GoldBod has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever,” the statement said.
The GoldBod further described the allegation attributed to Dr Boako as “contrived” and called on the Tano South MP to retract the claim and apologise for what it considers a false statement.
“We entreat the MP to unequivocally retract and apologize for putting out this falsehood,” GoldBod said.
The statement was signed by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.
