Mahama reassigns Brogya Genfi, Pelpuo moved to Special Initiatives

President John Dramani Mahama has made further changes to his administration, with Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi removed from the Ministry of Defence and reassigned to the Presidency as an Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.

Brogya Genfi had served as Deputy Minister for Defence since his appointment in March 2025.

In a separate change, the Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Agyekum, has also been removed from his position to head the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment while Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo replaces him.

This is the second ministerial reshuffle of President Mahama’s current second term after the first was announced on August 7, 2026.

The August 7 reshuffle saw reassignments and new ministerial nominations made including the reassignment of Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence.

Ahmed Ibrahim was also moved from Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to take over the Works, Housing and Water Resources portfolio.
