Newly elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has urged constituency vice-chairpersons across the region to return to the party’s core values of discipline, integrity, responsibility and hard work.
Speaking at an engagement with constituency executives in Kumasi, Mr Appiah said the NPP’s historical appeal to Ghanaians and its past electoral successes were rooted in those values.
“I am urging all of us to go back to our roots, where we exemplified the ideals of discipline, integrity, responsibility and hard work,” he said.
He said the party needed to strengthen reconciliation, rebuild its structures and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Appiah noted that the NPP lost more than 1.1 million votes in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 general elections, attributing the decline largely to low voter turnout rather than a complete shift in political allegiance.
He therefore urged constituency vice-chairpersons to work closely with their respective chairpersons and other local executives to rebuild the party at the grassroots.
He said the ongoing engagements were aimed at reconnecting with disillusioned supporters and positioning the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for victory.
Responding on behalf of the executives, the Mampong Constituency Vice-Chairperson, S. O. Frimpong, commended Mr Appiah for what he described as his proactive approach to post-election reconciliation.
He said Mr Appiah’s outreach to his main electoral opponent and other defeated aspirants demonstrated a commitment to an inclusive administration.
According to Mr Frimpong, such efforts were critical to strengthening party cohesion and restoring confidence among NPP supporters in the Ashanti Region.
Following the engagement with constituency executives, Mr Appiah also received courtesy calls from various stakeholder groups at his temporary office in Kumasi.
The groups included representatives of major market associations, the NPP Loyal Ladies campaign wing and radio morning show hosts from across the metropolis.
They congratulated him on his election and urged him to implement the strategic vision outlined during his campaign.
Mr Appiah, in response, reiterated his call for sustained collaboration among party stakeholders to strengthen the NPP’s position in the Ashanti Region.
