The National President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Prosper Takyi, says nothing has changed about their decision to embark on a nationwide strike.
According to him, the industrial action declared by the three teacher unions is still in full force, calling on all teachers to stay out of the classrooms until government meets their demands.
Speaking to Dr. Cash on the Dwabrem Show on OTEC 102.9 FM on Monday, September 28, 2026, Mr. Takyi said government has not taken their concerns seriously.
He described government’s posture towards the plight of teachers as unfortunate and insensitive to the welfare of educators across the country.
He explained that the unions were forced to declare the strike after several engagements with government over unpaid promotion allowances and arrears yielded no positive results.
Mr. Takyi stressed that the strike, which took effect on Friday, September 25, 2026, will continue unabated until government shows commitment by paying all outstanding allowances owed teachers.
He therefore urged parents and students to bear with teachers, noting that their action is in the interest of improving teaching and learning conditions in Ghana.
