Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Asokwa Parliamentary Candidate aspirant, Edmund Kyei, has urged delegates of the party to make victory in the 2028 general elections their top priority as they prepare for the party’s upcoming National Executive Elections.
According to him, the NPP requires experienced and competent leadership capable of developing strategies to return the party to power after its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Kyei believes former NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, possesses the experience, political acumen and proven track record needed to lead the party as National Chairman.
He said winning elections from opposition requires a different approach from winning while in government, arguing that the political environment in opposition demands greater expertise and strategic planning.
“Winning elections as a party in government and opposition requires different techniques and approaches. Experience cannot be taken out of the equation, but winning from opposition requires advanced expertise because the political atmosphere is not a playground but a serious business,” he said.
Mr Kyei noted that every position being contested in the National Executive Elections was important to the NPP’s efforts to reclaim power in 2028, but stressed that the position of National Chairman was particularly critical.
“In less than a month, the New Patriotic Party will hold its National Executive Elections. Every position being contested matters for victory in 2028, but I believe good leadership, particularly the Chairman, matters most because most directions and initiatives will be planned, implemented and executed under the leadership of the Chairman,” he stated.
He further argued that Mr Boadu’s previous record in leading the NPP to electoral victories makes him the strongest candidate for the National Chairmanship position.
“Looking at the aspirants for the National Chairmanship, it is undeniable that John Boadu possesses the qualities required to serve as National Chairman and bring the NPP back to power in 2028,” Mr Kyei said.
According to him, Mr Boadu played a significant role in the NPP’s victories in the 2016 and 2020 general elections, particularly the latter, when the party was confronted with significant challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In elections, the track record of aspirants matters. By that measure, John Boadu stands out. He led the NPP into victory in 2016 from opposition and strategically helped the party secure another victory in 2020, at a time when the NPP government had experienced setbacks as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
Mr Kyei said the ability of Mr Boadu to navigate difficult political situations earned him the nickname “Adwenkese3”, which, he argued, demonstrates his strategic thinking and political experience.
He therefore appealed to all NPP delegates to vote massively for Mr Boadu in the October 3 National Executive Elections.
“I plead with all delegates in the October 3 elections to make victory in 2028 a priority and vote massively for John Boadu as the National Chairman. His experience and political strategies give us hope that the NPP can return to power in 2028,” Edmund Kyei said.
