The Member of Parliament for Oforikrom Hon Mike Akwasi Aidoo has observed that the opposition NPP is going through difficult times as a political party due to their paltry 88 number in the chamber.
He recounted that the Minority in Parliament was doing their best to kick the government on its toes adding that they government of President John Dramani Mahama has developed deaf ears to the counsels to improve the lots of the suffering masses.
The Oforikrom Member of Parliament made the call during the 40th anniversary celebration of the Oforikrom SDA Church Choir in the same constituency in Kumasi.
Expatiating further, Hon. Mike Akwasi Aidoo cited the cases of the passage of the reintroduced Lithium deal law under this government and the Dumsor Levy were sarcastically passed while the majority flouted on all the considerations of the minority.
He insisted that though their suggestions were ignored it has come back to hunt the government for reneging on the minority’s appeals to the extent that the NDC government has to review the pump tax components during the recent world market prices hikes..
He accused the current NDC majority in Parliament of taking undue advantage of the minority’s current numbers. Hon. Mike Akwasi Aidoo intimated that the NDC as an opposition party in the 8th Parliament became extremely relevant by keeping the then Nana Addo government on its toes.
He insisted that the NDC with their toe to toe numbers in the 8th Parliament demanded a reduction of increase of the E-Levy adding that the then government made changes due to their call.
He said the same cannot be said of today’s minority because the majority can even run the business of the House if the minority decides to boycott proceedings until 2028.
He believes the majorıty was beıng abusive and recalcitrant with all the minority’s constructive suggestions emphasising that the minority would continue to use other avenues including the use press conferences to press home their demands in the house.
