Criticism doesn’t offend me; it helps me govern better – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has said he is not offended by criticisms directed at his administration, insisting that feedback from the public helps him improve his leadership and make better decisions in governing the country.

The President said he welcomes divergent opinions and public scrutiny, including comments questioning the direction of his government, explaining that such criticisms provide an opportunity for him to reflect on his actions and identify areas that require improvement.

Speaking during an engagement with members of the Ghanaian community in Moscow, Russia, Mahama stressed that he does not consider criticism an attack on his person but rather an important part of democratic governance.

He maintained that his primary responsibility is to do his best for the country and that he remains open to suggestions and concerns from citizens who may disagree with some of his decisions or policies.

“I don’t mind if people tell me I am leading the country in the wrong direction because I am trying to do my best. Criticism helps me to do better. So when people criticise me and say this is not right, I am not offended.”

He also made particular reference to social media commentary, assuring Ghanaians that he is aware of the conversations and criticisms surrounding his presidency, including videos and posts shared on platforms such as TikTok.

Mahama indicated that he follows such online discussions and is not oblivious to the views being expressed by citizens about his administration.

“So all your TikToks and things, don’t think I don’t see them. I see them.”
