EOCO escorts Manhyia South MP to law firm, home for inspections

Officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) are escorting the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, to his former law firm for an inspection and the gathering of evidence as part of an ongoing investigation.

Mr Baffour Awuah is expected to be taken to his residence afterwards for a similar inspection and evidence-gathering exercise.

The MP presented himself to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea.

His appearance comes a day after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest and authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.

EOCO had told the court that it had exhausted reasonable means of securing Mr Baffour Awuah’s voluntary attendance and was concerned that relevant documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed.

The warrant followed an attempted arrest of the MP at the Accra High Court on September 23.

EOCO has maintained that Mr Baffour Awuah was invited twice in February 2026 but failed to honour the invitations.

The MP has disputed that account, saying the invitations related to his former law firm, Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans.

He said that after referring the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the law firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and provided the information requested by investigators, including a written statement.

The investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

Authorities have linked the probe to suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering, although the allegations remain under investigation.

The inspections at the law firm and Mr Baffour Awuah’s residence form part of EOCO’s ongoing investigation following the issuance of the arrest warrant.
