Ghana gaining notoriety for drugs on international front under NDC- Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has raised concern about Ghana’s growing notoriety for drug trafficking on the international front.

Speaking at the NPP National Delegates Conference at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Dr. Bawumia said the current trend of drug shipments linked to Ghana is ruining the country’s hard-won international image.

According to him, the mere arrest of drug dealers is not enough to address the menace, and there is the need for a bipartisan parliamentary committee to unravel who is behind these shipments.

Dr. Bawumia stated that under the NPP administration,  drug-related arrests were made here in Ghana, which helped to prevent international embarrassment for the country.

He noted however that under the current NDC government, drugs are slipping through to other countries before being intercepted, exposing Ghana to international disgrace.

He therefore called on government to be transparent and allow a full bipartisan investigation to protect Ghana’s reputation and ensure those behind the illicit trade are brought to book.
