The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on the government to act fast and resolve the grievances of striking teachers, warning that any more delays will only deepen the disruption across the nation’s schools.
Expressing deep concern over how the prolonged industrial action is crippling academic activities, TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah pressed the state for an immediate fix.
Pointing to past broken promises as the root of the current standoff, the TUC secretary-general emphasized that the government must take accountability to break the deadlock.
“We are asking the government to expedite action and resolve their concerns. The teachers are doing this based on their previous experiences, and the government must come in now,” he said.
He stressed that a quick, lasting agreement is the only way to prevent ongoing interruptions to students’ education.
“The teachers were looking up to us to provide, and I can confirm to you that we are resolving it,” Agyekum stated.
The continued strike has heightened calls for a swift resolution, with stakeholders concerned about the potential for further disruption if the disagreement remains unresolved.
The TUC’s appeal places renewed emphasis on the need for dialogue between the government and the teachers to address their concerns and establish a sustainable agreement.
For now, attention remains on the government’s efforts to settle the dispute and the steps needed to enable teachers to return to their classrooms and restore normal academic activities.
