Annoh-Dompreh to Akufo-Addo: Suspend transition process

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region, has urged the suspension of the ongoing transition from the Nana Akufo-Addo administration to the incoming government of John Dramani Mahama.

Addressing party supporters at the NPP office in Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Annoh-Dompreh, who is also the parliamentary candidate for the constituency, stressed the need to resolve disputes over parliamentary results in certain constituencies before continuing the handover process.

“The transition process should be halted,” Annoh-Dompreh said.

“His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should halt the transition process and John Dramani Mahama, president-elect, must show same equity must speak to his people and we must ensure that all the other outstanding seats are declared duly by the EC (Electoral Commission) before the transition process goes on.”

The Majority Chief Whip expressed concerns that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) might attempt to manipulate results to bolster its parliamentary majority, potentially securing the two-thirds majority required to pass laws unchallenged.

“We are convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that the preoccupation and the negative mindset of the NDC is to be able to steal seats in addition to seats that they won so that eventually they can get the two-thirds,” he said.

“And then Parliament becomes a rubber stamp and they will do whatever they want to do.”
