The suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Kwabena Agyepong has sued the Ashanti regional chairman of the party Bernard Antwi Boasiako over some “defamatory” comments he made about him.
In a writ sighted by OTECFMGHANA.COM , Mr. Agyepong is asking the court to issue “an order compelling the first defendant to immediately cause to be retracted the defamatory statement via the same medium used in making them thus through the frequency modulation of the second defendant and to render an unqualified apology to the plaintiff via the same media.
“An order of the court compelling the first defendant to write a letter personally addressed to the plaintiff admitting his comments were untrue and unfortunate and given his tacit commitment never again to spew such falsehood and scandalous defamatory remarks on the person of the plaintiff.
“An order of the court compelling the first defendant to pay an amount of GHC400, 000 as punitive and exemplary damages to the plaintiff as damages for the defamatory comments (he the defendant said about the plaintiff”.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako had in an interview accused Mr. Agyepong of working to ensure the defeat of the ruling party ahead of the 2016 polls, which saw the NPP defeating the NDC by some one million votes.
“Over my dead body; I will never allow Kwabena Agyepong to get reinstated as the NPP general secretary. This cannot happen…. last year by this time, some people were working very hard to see the NPP lose the elections, and Kwabena Agyepong was one of them,” Wontumi told Journalists.
An earlier letter from Agyepong’s lawyers demanding an apology over the comment was rubbished by Wontumi.
