Kumasi: 36-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 15 Years Imprisonment for Robbery

The Abuakwa Circuit Court has sentenced Emmanuel Bannor, a 36-year-old man, to 15 years imprisonment with hard labor for robbery.

Bannor was charged with robbery by pointing a knife at Rita Karikari at Atwima Koforidua in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region on June 24, 2025.

Bannor robbed Rita Karikari of her iPhone 12 Pro and bag containing her Fidelity staff ID card and other belongings.

The police tracked the phone to a software engineer’s shop, where it was retrieved. The accused led the police to a small garden in front of his house, where the complainant’s bag was recovered, and a further search in his room led to the retrieval of the butcher knife used in the crime.

The accused, Emmanuel Bannor, pleaded guilty to all counts after the prosecution presented its statement.

The court, presided over by His Honor Jeffta Appau, sentenced Bannor to 15 years imprisonment with hard labor.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa, presented evidence that Bannor sold the stolen phone to his nephew for GHS 4,000, significantly lower than its original price of GHS 5,600.

The software engineer assisted the police by calling witness Maxwell Osei to come for the phone, which led to Bannor’s arrest.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the crime and serves as a deterrent to others.
