NPP Council of Elders names five-member team to police 2026 presidential campaign

The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has appointed a five-member ad hoc committee to keep the upcoming flagbearer race orderly as the NPP prepares for its 31 January 2026 presidential primaries.

The move, announced in a statement signed by the chairman of the Council, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, follows consultations with all five of the aspirants for the NPP presidential nomination.

The discussions with the candidates took place on 11 September 2025.

The committee is mandated to:

  • Monitor the remarks, behaviour and activities of aspirants and their followers.
  • Receive and examine petitions about abusive language, hate speech or personal attacks.
  • Recommend corrective or disciplinary measures to protect the NPP’s unity and reputation.

Chaired by Engineer Kwasi Abeasi, the group includes Alex Glover-Quartey, Ato Hamilton, Kwadwo Afari and Mark Opoku.

The Council of Elders appealed to aspirants, campaign teams and supporters to co-operate fully.

“The party remains committed to conducting a peaceful, respectful, and dignified primary process that strengthens our unity and readiness for the national elections,” the Council’s statement said.
