Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs
Former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, says the campaign message of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is gaining strong traction among Ghanaians, particularly at the grassroots level.

According to him, the response Dr. Bawumia continues to receive across the country shows that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a credible candidate capable not only of leading the party but also of winning the 2028 general elections.
Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, made these remarks while speaking on OTEC FM’s afternoon programme Dwabrem, hosted by Prince Nii Ardey, popularly known as Dr Cash, on Wednesday, January 29, 2026.
“Dr. Bawumia’s message is clearly resonating with the people, especially at the grassroots. You can feel the connection when you engage ordinary party members and supporters,” he stated.
He emphasized that not every party member is fit to lead the nation as president, stressing the need for a candidate with the right temperament, vision, and leadership qualities.
“The NPP needs more than just a flagbearer. We need someone who can lead the party into victory in 2028 and also govern Ghana effectively. Dr. Bawumia has shown that he has what it takes,” he said.
Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further praised Dr. Bawumia’s character, describing him as a respectful and disciplined leader who remains calm even under intense provocation.
“One admirable quality of Dr. Bawumia is his respect for all manner of people. Regardless of extreme provocation, he conducts himself with dignity and maturity, and that is the kind of leadership Ghana needs,” he added.
He expressed confidence that with unity and strategic leadership, the NPP stands a strong chance of retaining power in the 2028 general elections, urging party supporters to rally behind a candidate who embodies both competence and humility.
