NPP risks 2028 polls over this current delegate system –  Boakye Agyarko

Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has expressed concerns that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will struggle to win the 2028 polls if the current delegate system of electing party leaders persists.

Speaking on OTEC FM’s Dwabrem show on Thursday, Boakye Agyarko stated that the display of wealth by delegates after internal primaries has created disunity among party members and led to voter apathy.

Boakye Agyarko emphasized that the party must ensure all card-bearing members participate in voting during primaries to address this issue.

“After party primaries, we saw delegates flaunting money and other gifts received from candidates. How do you expect the ordinary party member to vote without any incentive?” he questioned.

He added that the actions of some delegates have brought disunity among the party’s base, with non-delegates feeling disenfranchised.

The NPP stalwart noted that the party entered the 2024 polls with a weak base due to poor decisions by its leadership.

To turn things around, Boakye Agyarko stressed that the party needs to implement strong measures to win the 2028 polls.
